to Summers Farm for Fall Fun

After Saturday football, the Johnson clan headed to Summers Farm in MD.  We never been to this Farm so this was a new adventure.  A bit of gloomy weather and a little drizzle of rain (thankfully we left just before the big rain came) but did not stop us from serious fun.

And of course lots of fun.

Carter and Luke were not going to let us miss the corn maze.  They had to find six markers and color them on their guide.

My brother was not going to let us miss the apple blaster.  Shoot apples at the targets.

the Knights day

The first game of the playoffs and the Knights win with an upset.

The boys were thrilled (as were the parents...maybe the parents were more thrilled).

Football 2013 season

Carter and Luke have finished their football season.  And the playoffs are next!

For the season, Luke's Huskies, Jeremy as the coach, only lost one game (the one loss was tough)!  And only had 3 touchdowns scored on them all season!  Luke is #9.

Carter's Knights, won 2 games...not their best season but hopefully the playoffs will be great.  Carter has improved so much this season.  Moving up to B league this year means he in one of the younger kids (playing with a lot of middle schoolers...who look so big!).  He has earned his way into some great positions this year, playing 2nd team quarterback and 1st team defense (sorry I have no idea what position he is in, I need to learn all the football terms).  The last couple of games he had a fumble recovery, some great tackles, kick off returns and big runs with the ball.  So exciting to see him comfortable and confident on the field.  Carter is #2.

Makes a mom nervous so see the big kids tackling Carter...how do they get they get up after being tackled that like?!  Notice he is still holding onto that ball!

Carter turns 11

Carter's birthday.  A day filled with little surprises from the moment he wakes up.  A few presents at breakfast time with a special something to eat (pumpkin donuts...and of course the healthy stuff) and Luke helped me decorate the kitchen.  Then off to school.  Name and birthday gets announced on morning announcements.

Mom brings in a special lunch and treats (only for Carter, school rules we cannot share or bring in things anymore).  He requested Moe's.  All of his friends were so excited and sweet, singing happy birthday and trying to be right next to the birthday boy (seriously, kids have no sense of personal space).

I have an entirely new respect for 5th grade teachers after having lunch with all those 5th grade boys...

Then after school, a few more presents and treats.

Off to football, where we brought cupcakes and football brownies.  I have never had 5-7th grade boys ran at me like that and see them devour food like that before...

Home for bed with some new pajamas waiting and the Percy Jackson book series.

Things Carter got for his birthday, the things he requested:  Under Armor gear (the cool clothes these days), pumpkin treats, Trader Joes cookie butter, $, Bath and Body works pumpkin soaps and hand sanitizer (my boys love this stuff!), new binoculars for hunting, those Nike Elite socks.  All things that this 11 year boy is in to.

Time for the Waterford Fair

A rite of passage at Waterford Elementary is the Waterford Fair.  Not only going to the fair but being part of the fair as a 5th grader.  The fifth grade students spend the day in the Old School house having class.  They dress up and take on a roll.  The 5th graders have class (with curriculum appropriate for that time), all the while the people at the fair come in and out of the building to watch.  The kids keep in roll quite well and do a great good for the reenactment.

Carter was Ernest Johnston for the day.

Then I was a chaperone for Luke's class, a big group of 3rd graders.  They spend the school day participating in the fair crafts and demonstrations.  They love it (even though they were hot, tried and hungry)!
