Big Nate the Musical

Carter and Luke have read several of the Big Nate books...books about a boy who causes trouble (kind of reminds me of little version of Zack Morris a la Saved by the Bell).  Carter and I stumbled upon the Big Nate Musical, while looking up Big Nate books online.  When we realized it was just in Maryland, we decided to go.

The musical was at the Adventure Theater at Glen Echo Park.  The theater was small, perfect for kids.  The Big Nate musical was a wonderful production.  The boys were joined by the cousins.  I had just as much fun watching the kids watch the show, as I did watching the show.  The music and the way they brought the book to life was great.  The kids were laughing out loud and cheering.

After the show, we road the carousel at in Glen Echo Park.  This park is such a little hidden treasure, we are definitely going back this summer.
We could not stay long because the kids all had a sleep over at the farm cabin with their grandparents...lots of fun for these kiddos for the chilly Memorial weekend.

Luke's mole

Luke's mole.  It has been there most of his life.  We have discussed removing it several times with the doctors other the years.  Really no medical reason to remove it, it would only be for cosmetic reasons.  We were told to wait as he got older and when he started to ask about removing it.

Luke entertained the idea of removing it this past fall.  However we could not remove at the time...he did not want to miss football.  Then in the winter, he did not want to miss wrestling.  The spring was the right time to do it.
Heading in to the office, last mole picture.
10 stitches to remove the mole on his chin (as well as some internal).  He handled it all like a champ.
Getting the stitches out hurt a bit more.  Tears welled up in his eyes but no crying, he was being tough.
It is healing so quickly.

Mother's Day started early

Carter and Luke are always up to something, sometimes good, sometimes questionable.  They were whispering about something at dinner last night.  Luke kept talking about his check list.

Well, I found out what they were up to...

They woke up around 5:30 a.m. on Mother's Day to make me breakfast in bed.  Luke wrote on his list, what time he needed to wake up and some how his internal clock helped him to do that...so he woke up Carter.  I just thought I heard one of them wake to use the bathroom.

They showed up a little later beside my bed.  They made breakfast.  Carter cut up strawberries and Luke made toast with blackberry jam, since that is my favorite, and butter.  And then they added some cracker sticks...some of the things on Luke's list.
Such sweetness, I appreciated the breakfast but I LOVED their thoughtfulness, going out of their way to do something special just for me.

Then I also had lots of letters and notes they made for me.  The rest of the day was filled with food and family!

AWANA awards

Carter and Luke have completed their 2012-2013 year of AWANA.  Luke as a Spark and Carter in TNT. A lot of verses memorized and work done.  They continue to amaze me with the amount of scripture they can memorize.

Carter was not able to make it to the award ceremony but Luke was there and thrilled.  He completed two books, the sparks book and the review book.  He was all smiles and having a great time.

The children were called on stage (about 200 kiddos participated at our church), handed their award and were even on the big screens.
Jeremy and I volunteered this year (Jeremy has done it for several years, it was my first year) in the kindergarten class.
