They cannot get enough

of skiing.

Headed to Whitetail right after school.  Jeremy, Carter and Luke, hours on the slopes.

Luke in the gray and bright green jacket.  Carter in black plaid jacket, and he heads down the mountain ahead of the rest.  Jeremy is filming.  The boys tried out new trails and moved up to the harder intermediate trails.

Playoff time

Basketball playoffs.

Luke's team won their first game.

But they lost in the semi-finals.  Great season for Luke.  He worked hard at each game, lots of points and great defense.  And tonight he found out he made the top travel team for his club...more basketball in the spring.

Carter's team won their first round (more teams and more rounds in 5th grade than 3rd grade).  More games to come.  And Carter will be playing travel in the spring...to start soon.

Sights for the slopes

In between basketball tryouts, basketball games, wrestling and church, we still managed is get in some skiing this weekend (Brayden at home with attendant) to tryout our new equipment.  Saturday late afternoon and evening...on a 50+ degree day...made for a bit rougher skiing conditions mounds of slush turned to ice as the sun went down.  All handled it well (except for me when I took out the almost entire family and a ski pole getting off the high speed lift).
Boys getting more comfortable no matter the conditions or speed (whereas my backside needed a break that night).

To ski or not ski

After the boys great start to skiing just a few days ago, we headed up as a family to Ski Liberty (Brayden resting nicely at home with his nurse).  Jeremy is a long time skier, a lot in his youth and college days.  I, however, skied once, back when Jeremy and I where dating...it did not go well...Jeremy and I learned that we do not work well in those situations (teaching me to ski in snow or water...yikes).  And my first time, I may have yelled (or cursed at, depending on who you ask) at my soon-to-be father-in-law at the time...who I am hoping now, only looks back on that ski trip with fond memories.  Needless to say, this whole skiing thing is now all about the boys in my house.  Jeremy was ready to get back to it and Carter and Luke falling in love with it immediately.

We went the Sunday of President's weekend right after our major snow storms.  It was a busy place.  We got all the gear together (and Jeremy begrudgingly wore a helmet to be a good example for the boys but I am pretty sure that was the first and last time for him) and headed out.
I signed up for a class and a piece of humble pie.  The instructor was sweet.  The others in my class were two little elementary school girls, a grandma and a poor Asian guy that couldn't speak English and some how always ending up skiing backwards or sliding into the trees.  And then there was me.
My class went well (while the boys were off skiing) and then we all skied together as a family...and I moved off the bunny slope.
We headed in for a quick dinner and then right back to skiing.  They could not get enough!  By the end I was acting the way I expected the kids to...I was cold and tired, they wanted to keep going.
Seriously lots of fun.  Way more fun than I ever expected.  Carter has taken to skiing so naturally and is ridiculously comfortable with it (and for him that is HUGE, since he is usually our slow to warm up and get comfortable one).  Luke found his grove and zipped down the mountain...he may have had a lecture about control over speed.  It was a blast to see them do it so well and only being their second time.  More often than not they were all waiting on me going down the mountain, at my own leisurely pace but they slowed down to check on me every time.  And what a sweet time to be riding on the lift with them, just talking and listening to them.

We skied from about 4:00 till 9:30 p.m.  It was packed but beautiful in the evening with snow flakes falling.  It did start to get cold and we realized how cold when we got in the car and realized the temp was only in the 20s.  My camera and phone would freeze or fog up from the wet cold so there were not many pictures (so not like me but was having enough fun that I didn't care).

A lot of success on our first little ski trip.  And planning our next one soon.

They are now obsessed with skiing

Ok we have some amazing friends here in Waterford...
They invited Carter and Luke to go skiing with them.  Ummm...Carter and Luke have not skied before, ever.  Still, they were up for taking them.

We scheduled them for a class, rental gear and lift tickets.  And they were off...with our friends (whom we shall refer to as the A-team, A for their last name and A for how awesome they were to talk on such a task).  Just a short drive to Ski Liberty.

They skied from 4:30 till close at 10:00 p.m.   Carter and Luke started with a class and then spent the rest of the time going up the lift and down skiing.
Even though they were exhausted, they could not stop talking about it and when we were taking them back.  Totally obsessed and excited.

Over 18 inches and it's not stopping

Snow, snow, snow.  Which means endless hours of fun.  The boys headed outside at 9:30 a.m. and finally came in around 2:30 p.m.
Lots of snow to play in...very serious work on making good sledding paths and forts.
Of course one must jump into the large piles of snow.

And then with style.
And fun with friends.

Such sweet moments with friends, everyone digging out, people coming in and out of the house, hanging out, lots of laughter and fun.

Jump Ball

More basketball.  And both boys did the jump ball to start the game (they are not usually the person for it).
Great games by both boys.
